These are the mittens that started it all. Designed and tested many years ago while I was living in the remote community of Eagle Alaska on the Yukon river running sled dogs. I’ve made some minor improvements over the years, but the original mitten has largely stayed the same.

These mittens have beaver fur on the back, wrist and thumb keeping the insulation where you need it most. The fur runs up your arm towards your shoulder to help shed wind and snow. The mitten palms are made of durable leather to hold up for many long winter seasons of gripping snow machines, dog sleds, axe handles, or ski poles.

The harness tabs are located near the thumb so that they keep your harness safely between your arms while traveling down the trail. This location allows the mittens to hang sideways and slightly folded when stored behind your back to keep them from filling with loose blowing or falling snow.

The double layer fleece liners keep your hands warm, holds up to heavy use, and drys quickly. The fleece doesn’t wick water from your hands out to your mittens which extends the life of the leather.

The classic beaver mittens are available in seven different sizes. Extra small is intended for children or small adults. The Small-Med Longs are recommended for those with smaller hands or those not wishing to wear a liner or chore glove in side of them. The Large- XX Large are meant to be worn as over mittens on top of chore/ liner gloves. We use a simple fleece glove inside of our mittens as a chore/liner gloves. This not only adds to the overall warmth of the mittens, but it also protects our hands from the cold when we need to remove the mittens for things requiring a little more dexterity.

All of the classic mittens come with a harness, which is very handy for storing your mittens behind your back when not in use. This helps keep you from dropping and loosing a mitten and allows for easy access when you need them again.

❖These mittens come standard with a double layer fleece liner, but sheared beaver can be substituted if desired for an additional fee of $250-300 for most sizes. Fleece liners come in an assortment of colors, and will be chosen to match your mittens. Please let us know if you have a strong color preference.
